AUTOMATIC WHEEL STONER FOR CNC GRINDER

The Automatic Stoner is used to remove glass particle build-up within the grinding wheel, and re-expose the diamonds.  This process allows the wheel to again cut freely.  The device consists of mechanisms for holding and feeding the stones, also known as dressing sticks.  The dressing sticks are made of aluminum oxide, are cut for the thickness of the wheel profile, and come in various lengths(GL standard  2”w x 9” long).

The feeding mechanism consists of a linear actuator driven by servo motor.  The servo motor allows for optimum control of the feed rate and distance.  This system is superior, as the level of the plant supply air, which tends to vary throughout the day, affects air driven stoners supplied by other manufacturers.  The servo drive is mounted within an enclosure, and includes the necessary controls.  Handshake signals from the CNC grinder are required in order to know that the grinder head is in position for the stoning cycle, and when the stoning is complete.

The grinder is normally set up to repeat the stoning cycle at a programmed number of grinding cycles.  This is a function of the CNC controls.  Glassline controls would be updated to include this feature if not already present.

The Automatic Stoner has very few adjustments.  Adjusting the guide rails at the pressure plate and carriage to the proper width sets up the width of the stone.  The front guide rail needs adjusting by moving the guide rail down so only one stone can be fed out.

The unit has a kind of magazine loading feature, and should be loaded with stones prior to each shift.  This will ensure stones will be present at all times.
